You’re the Smart Ones

First, thank you. To everyone who joined our recent webinar, thank you for investing your time in your future. I know life gets busy. Retirement brings competing priorities, and it can be tempting to put important financial decisions on tomorrow’s to-do list. The fact that you chose to spend an hour learning about retirement planning tells me something important: you’re the smart ones.

For those of you who were not able to join, if you’d simply like to watch it again, the webinar recording here:

The people who enjoy the most confident retirements aren’t necessarily the wealthiest. They’re the ones who ask questions, seek education, and make thoughtful decisions before they’re forced to. They understand that good decisions rarely happen by accident. They happen because people take the time to learn, explore their options, and prepare before life forces a decision.

One of the themes we discussed during the Protect It, Use it, Live It webinar I hosted alongside HomeEquity Bank was that retirement has changed dramatically. Canadians are living longer, pensions are less common, daily costs are higher, and for many homeowners, home equity has quietly become one of their most important financial assets. That doesn’t mean everyone should access their home equity. But it does mean every homeowner should understand how it can fit alongside their other retirement options. Knowledge creates choice, and informed people make better decisions.

During our session, we explored the choices available to Canadian homeowners 55 and better, when using home equity may make sense and when it may not, and why every financial decision should support your quality of life while protecting your future. We also talked about approaching these decisions thoughtfully, because retirement is too important to leave to guess work.

One of my favourite parts of the webinar was the thoughtful questions from attendees. They reinforced what I’ve believed for years: Canadians aren’t looking for sales pitches. They’re looking for a clear, balanced education that helps them make informed decisions for themselves and their families. The quality of the discussion confirmed that this community is genuinely engaged in creating better retirements.

Join Me Every Week

If you enjoyed our conversation, I’d love to stay connected. Each week, I publish a newsletter featuring my adventures in retirement, practical financial ideas, observations from my work with Canadians across the country, and occasionally a story about trying to keep up at seventy. It’s informative and educational and hopefully leaves you a little wiser and smiling along the way.

Retirement shouldn’t just be financially secure. It should be interesting, purposeful, and yes, even fun. To subscribe, email info@retirewithequity.ca with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.

Thank you again for joining me. I hope our paths cross again soon.
